Position: Thermoplastic Engineering Leader

So, what brought you to STS?

STS opened a position for a thermoplastic engineer in China. STS China is one of the leaders for the exterior SMC parts. With the new market regulation for the emission reduction BU China have been developed several hybrid projects which combined SMC and thermoplastic to offer lightweight solution to their customer. The mission is to support STS China for the development of the thermoplastic’s projects, and to be kind of technical interface between Europe and China. It is an amazing opportunity for young engineer. Professionally point of view, China is one of the most powerful country in the world and is developing very fast by pushing the innovations and new technologies. As automotive supplier we must follow this mindset and propose innovative solution on time. Personally, it is the chance to discover a new country and a completely different culture. China has a very rich heritage, and people are always happy to talk about it. After 9 months in STS China I can just say that I am looking forward for the next months.

What does a typical day look like?

The good thing is there is no typical day! Every day is different. With my position I can work on very different topics, process, design or even innovation topics.

What is your greatest everyday challenge?

To fulfill our customer expectations and their challenges. One of my projects was to develop a new design solution for top deflector. After several discussion with customer and different design proposal we found a solution which is feasible in term of process and respect the customer requirements. As a foreigner, it is also important for me to understand, what Chinese customers are expecting and to learn how to work with them. For this challenge the engineering team members teach me and support me every day.
